Branch Health Clinic Makalapa Pharmacy
We are pleased to provide pharmacy services to all our patients. You can fill prescriptions at no cost from any of our pharmacy locations. If you have a prescription from a TRICARE network or non-network provider, you may fill it here, as long as it’s available on the TRICARE Uniform Formulary. We provide up to a 90-day supply for most drugs.
Our Military Pharmacy Services
Naval Health Clinic Hawai’i Pharmacy services are located at two locations: BHC Makalapa and BHC Kaneohe Bay
Maintenance Drugs
Maintenance drugs are those you take regularly for a chronic condition (i.e., drugs to control blood pressure or cholesterol).
Search the List of Maintenance Drugs to see if you have a prescription you should have transferred to be filled here at Naval Health Clinic Hawai’i or via home delivery.
Transferring Prescriptions
If you have prescriptions at a TRICARE network pharmacy, you may transfer your prescriptions to our military pharmacy. Call the Express Scripts Member Choice center at 1-877-882-3335 to learn more about prescription transfers.
Basic Core Formulary
All military pharmacies have a Basic Core Formulary. The Basic Core Formulary is a list of drugs that are available at all full-service military pharmacies. Use the TRICARE Express Scripts formulary search tool at https://www.express-scripts.com/frontend/open-enrollment/tricare/fst/#/ to see if your drug is available.
To start your search, you’ll need to enter the brand or generic name of the drug.
Filling Prescriptions
New Prescriptions
New prescriptions: Request the FIRST fill of your new prescription by using our online Q-Anywhere request portal at https://cxmlink.com/mtf624 or by texting the words “Get in Line” to 1-844-616-2556. The first fill means you recently communicated with your provider and they electronically sent a prescription to the pharmacy (even if this is a medication you are already taking or have taken in the past).
If you have a paper prescription, please pull a ticket from the kiosks in our pharmacy lobby and provide the paper prescription to the pharmacy technician when your ticket number is called to the window.
If you were seen within our clinic and want to wait for your prescriptions, please pull a ticket from the kiosks in our pharmacy lobby instead of using Q-Anywhere text messaging.
If your doctor is not located at our facility, check the Formulary Search Tool to see if your drug is available at our pharmacy.
Refills
Refills: Request a refill of your prescription by calling 1-808-353-4649 or using the MHS Genesis Patient Portal Rx Refill tab. Refills requested by midnight are ready the next business day after 11 a.m. from the ScriptCenter lockers located in the BHC Makalapa Pharmacy lobby. Refrigerated medications cannot be placed in the ScriptCenter lockers and must be picked up from the BHC Makalapa Pharmacy.
Refills will be returned to the pharmacy stock if they are not picked up within 7 days of the refill request.
Refills must be requested in advance.
All refills, with the exception of refrigerated medications, will be located in the ScriptCenter lockers located in the pharmacy lobby at BHC Makalapa.
Other Pharmacy Options
As a TRICARE beneficiary, you have other pharmacy options:
- You can use the TRICARE Pharmacy Home Delivery to have prescriptions sent to your home. This is the least expensive way to fill prescriptions outside of the Military Treatment Facility. Note: the home delivery option is limited in overseas locations.
- If you need a prescription filled after hours or when traveling, use a TRICARE network pharmacy.
Prescription Costs
While there is no cost for prescriptions here at Naval Health Clinic Hawai’i, there are costs for filling prescriptions via home delivery or at network pharmacies for all non-active duty beneficiaries.
Active duty service members have a $0 copayment for covered drugs at any pharmacy.
TRICARE Formulary
The TRICARE Formulary is a list of generic and brand-name prescription drugs covered by TRICARE. You can search the TRICARE Formulary to:
- See how much it costs and where you can get it filled
- See if your prescription needs prior authorization
- Look up the medical necessity criteria
- Get the prior authorization and medical necessity forms for your prescription
What is Electronic Prescribing?
Electronic prescribing allows civilian doctors to send prescriptions electronically to Naval Health Clinic Hawai’i pharmacies.
Did you know you can get your prescriptions from civilian doctors filled at our pharmacy, even if you are not enrolled to this facility? You can fill prescriptions from doctors outside of this facility, for free, if the prescription is available on the Uniform Formulary.
Why should I e-Prescribe?
It’s Safe and Efficient
e-Prescribing is the best way to keep your personal health information safe. You can reduce the chance of transcription errors, losing your prescription, and the need for doctor clarification when you choose e-Prescriptions. e-Prescriptions are transmitted securely from your doctor’s office to the pharmacy.
Convenient and Cost Saving
You can save time and money when you use e-Prescriptions by taking advantage of the $0 copayment when you pick up your prescription from your military pharmacy.
If your doctor e-Prescribes to us, save more time and get in line virtually from anywhere using our Q-Anywhere service.
How can I choose e-Prescribing?
It’s easy. Start by asking your provider to send the electronic prescription to our pharmacies:
BHC Makalapa Pharmacy ePrescribing Name: DoD PEARL HARBOR MAKALAPA ePhcy
BHC Kaneohe Bay Pharmacy ePrescribing Name: DoD KANEOHE BAY ePhcy
You can also transfer prescriptions from a network pharmacy to a military pharmacy. Call the Express Scripts Member Choice Center at 1-877-882-3335
