Urgent & Emergency Care

Naval Health Clinic Hawaii is not an urgent care or an emergency room.
TRICARE defines an emergency as a medical, maternity, or psychiatric emergency that would lead a 'prudent layperson' (someone with average knowledge of health and medicine) to believe that a serious medical condition existed, or the absence of medical attention would result in a threat to his/her life, limb, or sight and requires immediate medical treatment, or which has painful symptoms requiring immediate attention to relieve suffering.

In the event of a life-, limb-, or eyesight-threatening emergency, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room for care. Emergency Care does not require an authorization. It is recommended to notify your Primary Care Manager (PCM) within 24 hours, if reasonable, of an emergency admission or ER visit to coordinate continued care and ensure proper claims processing.

The nearest military treatment facility emergency room is Tripler Army Medical Center.

If any TRCIARE member has an urgent situation and needs professional advice after normal business hours, please call the TRICARE Nurse Advice Line (NAL), available 24/7 at 1-800-TRICARE (874-2273) and select Option 1 to speak with a registered nurse. The NAL can provide you with professional advice, or a referral to a network urgent care or emergency room if appropriate. Non-active duty members may also self-refer to an urgent care facility. A referral is not required.

Information about urgent care can be found here: https://www.tricare.mil/CoveredServices/IsItCovered/UrgentCare

*NOTE: Active Duty Service Members must obtain a referral from their PCM for all services except emergency care. Failure to obtain proper referral will result in denied claims and financial obligation. All other TRICARE Prime, non-active duty members, do not require a referral for Urgent Care or outpatient behavioral health services.
