Mobile Dental Units (MDUs) go the extra mile in promoting the medical readiness of the fleet by bringing dental care to the warfighter. Navy Medicine Readiness and Training Command Pearl Harbor’s (NMRTC PH) dental clinic on wheels administers dental exams to Sailors pier-side three times a week in support of ensuring a medically ready force.

Mass casualty incident response drill

On August 11, 2022, Navy Medicine Readiness and Training Command Pearl Harbor took part in a quick- reaction, scenario-driven drill to evaluate their response to a mass casualty incident, should one occur. The drill evaluated NMRTC-PH’s ability to alert staff and respond to the installation’s requests to support the Federal Fire Department.

RIMPAC Medical Symposium Focuses on Interoperability

On July 1, 2022, a panel of four medical flag officers from the United States and Australia met to discuss joint-medical readiness during the 2022 Rim of the Pacific Exercise (RIMPAC) Medical Symposium at Sharkey Theater on Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam. The theme of the medical symposium was "interoperability." The panel members discussed how international partnerships and standardization can improve patient outcomes if and when medical assets are called to respond to a wartime situation or humanitarian crisis.

Hazmat decontamination training prepares Sailors for real-world incidents

A group of 15 Sailors from Navy Medicine Readiness and Training Command Pearl Harbor completed First Receiver Operations Training (FROT) at Branch Health Clinic Makalapa, Thursday, February 17. This yearly requirement teaches Sailors to properly decontaminate patients prior to administering medical care in the event of a Chemical, Biological, Radiological, or Nuclear (CBRN) incident.

The Navy Medicine Readiness and Training Command Pearl Harbor (NMRTC PH) Health Promotion Department provides educational opportunities and services focused on health protection, disease prevention, and/or disease management for improved quality of life. The Health Promotion team supports the Navy’s efforts to provide programs and initiatives that screen, educate, and manage medical and dental health concerns, to include weight management. Efforts center on improving and sustaining military readiness, encouraging healthy lifestyles, and boosting overall wellness.

Defense Health Agency gets familiar with new Hawaii Market

Dr. Brian Lein, assistant director for health care administration for the Defense Health Agency (DHA) visited the newly established Hawaii Market the week of October 18, 2021. Lein assists the DHA director in unifying the Military Health System, standardizing health care delivery across all military hospitals and clinics, and sustaining medical readiness of the armed forces. During his time in Hawaii he toured each of the Military Treatment Facilities (MTFs) on Oahu to gain perspective of the unique capabilities, staff, and mission sets each MTF brings to the Hawaii Market.

NMRTC Pearl Harbor Activates Active Duty Flu Vaccine Campaign

Navy Medicine Readiness and Training Command (NMRTC) Pearl Harbor is gearing up for Hawaii’s flu season, typically stretching from November to May. The command began administering flu vaccines to the active duty Navy and Marine Corps population beginning early October.

New Hawaii Market strengthens DoD’s medical readiness, promises better patient experience

The Defense Health Agency (DHA) formally established the Hawaii Market, a critical milestone in once-in-a-generation Military Health System reform efforts to improve the readiness of the force and the health care service provided to warfighters, retirees and military families, on July 13, 2021. The Hawaii Market will enable greater collaboration across military hospitals and clinics in the Hawaii region to strengthen the medical readiness of service members and enable these facilities to deliver better care and a better patient experience.

First COVID-19 Vaccines at NHCH

NHCH has initially received a limited quantity of COVID-19 vaccines for frontline healthcare personnel and emergency support services. NHCH is following the Department of Defense's (DoD) phased, standardized, and coordinated approach to administering COVID-19 vaccines. The strategy was developed in collaboration with Operation Warp Speed, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and the DOD’s COVID Task Force assessment of unique mission requirements.
